Animal Welfare League NSW (AWL NSW)

Who We Are

Animal Welfare League NSW (AWL NSW) is a registered charity that has been operating for over 60 years. We provide expert care to surrendered, neglected and abandoned companion animals across New South Wales.

We believe that all companion animals in NSW deserve a safe and loving home. We strive to accomplish this through our work in rehoming, education and discount desexing programs.

Our inspectors are authorised to investigate allegations of animal cruelty and we make it easy for anyone to report animal cruelty.

As part of our ‘Getting to Zero’ philosophy we are committed to achieving zero euthanasia of healthy and treatable cats and dogs.

What We Do

Even if the time isn’t right for you to adopt a pet, there are many ways you can get involved and make a genuine difference to animals in need, just select from the menu on your left to see how. We have one shelter which is open 7 days a week. If you would like to adopt a pet from us, or if you live in a regional area, you can always contact your closest branch. Please note: not all branches offer rehoming services.

Our operations include:

  • A animal welfare shelter in NSW where surrendered animals are cared for prior to adoption
  • Inspectors who respond to reports of animal cruelty or neglect
  • A discount desexing program through a network volunteer branches around NSW
  • A foster care network for those wishing to care for abandoned and surrendered pets until we can find them forever homes
  • A bequest program, including Legacy House for cats, for the cats whose owners have passed away.
